The dramatic growth and popularity of virtual private networks (VPNs) have increased the demand for new technologies that further secure network transmissions. With VPNs, networks that are deployed on a public network infrastructure, organizations employ the same security, management, and quality-of-service (QoS) policies applied in a private network.
Cisco Systems has extended the functions of its VPN routers with its voice- and video-enabled VPN (V3PN) solution, or the Cisco 1760-V3PN bundle, to enable secure voice and video connectivity - and ultimately simplify telecommuting and branch- and remote-office computing. The solution delivers cost-effective, flexible wide-area connectivity, while providing a network infrastructure that enables the latest converged network applications such as IP telephony and video.
The new Cisco 1760-V3PN bundle includes everything an organization needs to support V3PN solutions at the branch office, as well as at small and medium-sized business locations. The solution supports voice, IPSec 3DES-based VPNs, and QoS capabilities. The bundle's increased default memory enables complex configurations to be entered and maintained. Additionally, four modular slots allow a wide range of WAN and voice interface cards (WICs and VICs) to be installed, delivering substantial flexibility.
The Cisco 1760-V3PN bundle can be used to implement powerful voice services such as Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) and Cisco IOS telephony services once proper license is acquired. Cisco IOS firewall and intrusion detection systems (IDS) are included and offer effective security measures to protect and monitor customer networks.
